Advantages
When using Specipig Miniature Pigs, feeding and treatment costs are lower, because they are smaller than regular pigs
For this reason, mini pigs require less housing space, needing only 0.7 m² per animal, which makes them more efficient.
Our own breed of piglets is easy to handle, as a fully grown miniature adults weighs approximately 35 to 45 kg.
They are a better model than conventional pigs for trials involving adult animals, tissue regeneration, and long housing periods

Our miniature pigs maintain a high health status due to rigorous biosafety procedures, a positive pressure ventilation system, the quarantine of any new animals, and strict hygiene protocols followed by all personnel. We regularly conduct health monitoring records to track the overall health status of the centre.
02 / 03
Our animals are kept in environments that care for their social and entertainment needs. They are housed in groups and provided with bedding material that allows them to explore with their snouts, along with toys that fulfil their entertainment requirements. When deemed necessary, during their recovery from sedation or anaesthesia, they are placed in specially designed boxes to ensure a calm and safe awakening, always accompanied by us.
03 / 03
Active training is conducted with the animals to reduce stress and enhance handling, all aimed to optimize their welfare. Specific training sessions are tailored for different types of studies to help the animals acclimatise to the presence of caregivers and the necessary handling during research.
